Re: [Avid-L2] Re: advice for system Symphony Nitris Classic

What Terry says. I'm running the supported config, the 8400 dual quad 2.33
on Vista Biz 64bit. Pretty nice, still.

That said, it will likely be the very last upgrade you will ever do to the
system. You might find a used 2xQC 2.33 XW8400 at NTS Computers
(www.nts.nl). I ordered a used 8600 (for an MC) from them last November.
Quick delivery, nice handling, fair price, in my experience. Call or email
them.

But do take into consideration that you might simply jump ship to Nitris DX
sometime this year. Then you can get a really powerful computer to go with
that, and it might not make sense to spend to much $ on the Classic now.

Running under Vista on your 9300 is not supported by Avid.

You were asking whether you could use the 2xDC 3GHz. I would think that you
can, but I'm not sure. It is not a supported configuration, as you have
found out. According to the ReadMe for Symphony 4.0.5, the Dual-DC 2.66 is
supported, and since the Dual-DC 3.0 is supported for Media Composer, I
don't know why it would not work. The Dual-QC 3.0 is supported for MC as
well, by the way.

Says the current ReadMe for 4.0.5:

The following PC Workstations are supported with Avid Symphony v4.x.
Supported PC Hardware Graphics Card Supported OS Supported with

HP z800 Dual QC 2.93 FX4800 Win Vista 64 Nitis DX

XW9300 Dual DC 2.0 FX3500 Win XP 32 Nitris

XW8600 FX3700 Win Vista 64 Nitris DX

XW8400 Dual QC 2.33 FX3500, 3700 XP 32/Vista 64 Nitris

XW8400 Dual DC 2.66 FX3500, 3700 XP 32/Vista 64 Nitris

XW8200 Dual 3.4 or 3.6 FX1300*, 1400 Win XP 32 Nitris

Kind regards,
