On Vista64 I went to the existing "Avid MediaFiles" folder on the C: drive (boot drive) went into Properties > Security > Edited the Everyone Group > Deny Full Control. And it worked.
Then I tried the exact same technique on the existing "Avid MediaFiles" folder on my non-media D: drive -- and it didn't work. Avid continued to think it had access -- and it continued to write renderedr files to that volume.
Then I created my own "Avid MediaFiles" folder on the D: drive and followed these instructions:
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-lock-and-password-protect-folder-in-vista/
or use this...
And it worked -- Avid could no longer save to that drive.
Avid had made that suggestion -- but thanks for repeating it.
Call me stubborn, but I still think this functionality should be built into the app.

You do get some less than obvious error messages when you try to write media to the locked drives but it will do what you want. I remember people talking about creating a text file called AvidMediaFiles on a PC which would also inhibit the writing of media to a drive. I haven't done it on a PC but have used the Mac trick with success. I am not on a unity etc... with project sharing and media sharing if this would work. I'm sure that would change things.

And occasionally, MC overrides "path" preferences that have been established in the Media Creation settings. In my haste, I have, on occassion, saved a render to a drive where it should not go.

Anyone know of a way to prevent MC from arbitrarily creating "Avid MediaFile" folders on every volume it finds? I asked Avid -- and they say it's impossible.
