[Avid-L2] Mixed framerate question

The show I'm doing promo for isn't delivering cuts in time, so we will be
working from dailies. This is normally a big PITA, but this time we have
been offered copies of the already digitized media, since we work in the
same facility that handles the show's post services. The media will be
1080p 23.98, while we generally work in NTSC.

I'm hoping we can just open the clips into the existing 30i project, since
all of the graphics, image shoot and previous episodes are 30i. How does
this work out in online? Do you decompose, open the HD clips in a 23.98
project, batch, then go back to the 30i project? Does the motion effect add
a consistent pulldown that we can expect to be applied the same way after
decompose and batch?

The online guys have been recommending that we work in 23.98, and then
convert to 30i at the very end of online, but I know we will keep bumping
into things we need to use that are 30i. They are not sold on mixing
framerates because going from 30/60 to 24 doesn't work so well in an
offline>online scenario. However I think that bringing 23.98 clips into a
30i project should be relatively easy.
