[Avid-L2] 4 channel audio QT export from Mac 3.5.4?

As far as I know this is not possible.  I get the must be in stereo to export.  Has 4.x changed the handling of QT with more than 2 channel audio?  I'm being asked to ftp an Avid 2:1 meridian compressed QT with 4 channels of audio.  This seems strange to me.
