Idol except for a glee club or barber shop quartet - and I saw a flash
frame. Nobody else in the family saw it, but I did. Our DVR allows us
to play back anything that is being watched and so we rewound it and
played it back in slow mo. Sure enough there it was. Just before that,
I saw some other editing mistake that I can't remember at the moment.
I think it was actually a CG with something like "First line of info
goes here. Second line of info goes here."
We like to complain about how crappy non-broadcast editing is, but the
crappiness is universal and pervasive. And it's really nothing new.
When I used to edit promos at a Chicago TV station, I'd find flash
frames all the time in major national TV shows, especially the sitcoms.
Nowadays, you can miss these things because of progressive displays,
but honestly, if you can't see a flash frame or a flash field, you
shouldn't be editing.
