The producers fell in love with the shallow depth of field. Something hard to achieve without the very large imager on the 5D or a bulky lens adapter on an eng rig. Now we have DP's and Producers calling us to get authorization to shoot with 5D's.
We had some problems with the footage. 4 1/2 minutes took 3 1/2 hours to import/transcode (SNDX 3.5). The bigger problem was that the footage had dropped frames. We couldn't seem to isolate the source of the problem. Also, audio is 44.1 khz and frame rate is 30p only. Not deal breakers, but not ideal.
The large imager looks beautiful, but the workflow could be better.

I've dealt with my share of bad B camera shot by the PA just because they had an extra DVCam handy. Will I now get the same kind of B roll only coming from a DSLR/DSMC camera? I can't imagine the footage getting much worse but I bet the "I wanna be a cameraman" PA stuck with a DSLR will probably shoot even worse than they already are now with existing camera solutions.
