I absolutely agree. There's no reason Avid couldn't sell an unrestricted seat of DS Soft at under $10K, which worked with the Xena card. Cross-platform would be nice, but I understand that could be a big hurdle for Avid. Maybe not though, with Boot Camp or some virtualization method.

Nevertheless, if you want to take the DIY approach and be responsible for system integration, why not offer it? Even Quantel sells standalone, limited-feature versions of its software (Marco) for news editing. If Avid expects DS to flourish, there has to be a different marketing approach.
