"Known" all that for more than 15 years and it wasn't until I did the
illustration (in my mind first) that I understood it.

I say:
I think that's what would be referred to as 'right-brain' thinking vs
'left-brain' thinking. Creative types like yourself ('visual
thinkers') are considered left-brained. Mathematical, logical, orderly
types (like me) are thought of as right-brained. All of this is merely
anecdotal and seems to have no basis in scientific fact.
In reality, most people are a mixture of the two. But clearly, my
so-called right-brained ability is stronger than my left-brained
ability. What this really means is that I am simply more analytical
and logical than I am artistic or creative. I don't think 'left-' or
'right-brained' means each type of person actually has these qualities
imbedded in either the left or right side of their brains. It's just a
metaphor.
I guess it's sorta like which hand you write with: I'm right-handed.
I dunno if there's a correlation, but I think the name 'right-brained'
and 'left-brained' may be derived from right-handedness vs
left-handedness.
OK, too much analytical thinking for one day . . . . . .
