Steve is right. Some of the larger spot cutters in the major markets had
been making upwards of $1500 or more per day (before the recession). Not
sure what, if anything, the economy has done to this. Agencies are a bit of
a different animal when it comes to rate. Now, when production companies
handle the post for a spot versus the agency hiring post direct, then you
can get a squeeze because the prod company sees post as a way to eek out
more profit. I just "love" it when a production company/producer tells me
after the fact that they have bid me out for the post and here is how much
time it will take to edit the gig! Yeah, love that....
