RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Erratic Numeric Entries In Color Correction Mac SNDX Now on PC

I'll forward this to the relevant engineers here in Tewksbury.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Re: Erratic Numeric Entries In Color Correction Mac SNDX Now on PC

Just for posterity I can now confirm that the same problem I have had switching to different color correction tab using keyboard shortcuts also exist on a PC SNClassic. Ver 3.0.5 ish on Window XP eshibits the same problem I've seen on the Mac. Avid needs to take a look at this problem. It makes it unreliable to use keyboard shortcuts to navigate to different tabs. I've only noticed the problem on HSL tabs if that points to any particular area of code.

For example go to a new shot apply my default correction and hit the key for hue offsets and the cross hairs are not centered. Use keyboard shortcut to go to another tab and then use the wacom pen to select hue offsets on the screen and voila the cross hairs are centered. There must be some bit of code that is not invoked when using keyboard shortcuts to get to tabs in the Color Corrector that doesn't tell the GUI to update to the current shot. This seems to be where the problem is cropping up. This explains why I wasn't seeing this until I started using the track ball. At the same time I started using keyboard shortcuts to get to the various tabs in the color corrector and that's when I noticed the problem. Can anybody confirm or deny this behavior on another Mac or PC system?

Almost like popping a tape in the time code doesn't catch up till you play the tape. If I go to a tab that has the errant numbers and scrub play or just advance a frame it resets to default. This can happen in multiple HSL tabs at the same time and each one only updates when it is the active tab and the timeline is moved to a new frame in the shot. I guess I can just ignore the ghost numbers since they have no effect on the shot until I manually go in and set a value up until then they are just an annoyance. I just can't see how this has gone unnoticed by me for over 3 weeks on the system. AFAIK nothing has be updated on the system except my mousework install. I did install off the disk but that was a non intel compatible version so I uninstalled and downloaded the current driver. Avid where should I look next?

I'm popping around the timeline using my long time wacom table. If I then pop to another shot and pop back to the virgin shot the parameters appear to be correct at default. Perhaps this is where the errant numbers are coming into play. If I pop to a new shot and the ghost parameters from the previous show are hanging on but inactive that might account for what I'm seeing. It would also explain why the only parameters that are errant are the ones I typically use for correction. Hmmmmmmm This is intermitent behavior but I'd say 30% of the new shots are exhibiting the problem.

Retyping in the same errant number has no effect, but typing in a different number has an effect and then typing back in the original number has an effect. It's like these dummy numbers are just place holders in the various parameter but not recognized by the system until the value is changed. Same is true for hue offsets. Even though the cross hairs are displace from center they are not effecting the signal until they are reset to center and then moved or dragged from their errant position. Weird stuff only thing new on the system is the Kennsington Track Ball with mouseworks and I'm using more tab based keyboard shortcuts.
