[Avid-L2] Versioner shelf life question?

So the Mac SNDX OS 10.5.6 system I'm on has assurance until sometime in November.  Therefore it qualifies for the 4.x upgrade.  I've downloaded the software and the versioner.  If I wait till after the assurance expires to do this upgrade will it still work or is there something that tells the system that if you haven't upgraded by the end of the assurance contract you can't upgrade?  I'm mid project and they plan to upgrade the rest of the offline bays to 4.x soon but I don't want to move until they do.
