Not sure what you are saying here. Yes, that's the default, but that's what modifiers are for. In MC you pick one of two buttons (or keyboard commands). Maybe I am missing something, but what is the big difference? "
No difference IF you want both non-ripple commands AND ripple commands.
But, after moving clips into a Project, trimming is primarily edge-trims. Clips get longer or shorter. Clips ripple both ways. Making a clip longer should never be destructive — push clips right. Clips get inserted between clips — push clips right. Clips get deleted. Why would I want a gap to open when I can issue a non-model (immediate) Lift?
Overwrite is destructive — just put the clip in an upper track. (But if I wanted to, there is an Overwrite command.)
FCPX let's me do a Replace by dragging it where I need it. (And, I can Fit-to-Fill.)
So far no need to switch to a non-ripple Mode. I'm not saying others might not want/need a non-ripple action, but in many decades of film and video editing I've found keeping it simple let's me work very fast.
I work with sync audio or no audio clips. Were I editing audio I likely would want my default mode" to be non-ripple.
And, I really would like a way to send an audio clip to specific point and have it stay where I put it. Maybe I just don't know how to do this.
Best Regards,
Steve Mullen
