Today I worked with a DP on some Red Camera sketches I'm onlining. I had told him ahead of time we would be taking the default camera metadata setting for our transcodes to Avid media. I think he assumed that was just for offline purposes and was surprise I wasn't working off the raw files. The stuff still looked very good but he felt we would have a lot more detail in the dark areas and more definition in hair etc... Of course in theory that is all true but in practice if I were to relink to the ama'd RAW Epic files can anyone tell me in general terms how much better the image will be and will I notice a remarkable improvement looking on the image on my JVC lcd reference monitor? When I get a moment I'm going to try this for my own edification but I'm curious if anyone else has had the opportunity to make such a comparison of Red Epic transcoded to DNX 220X vs linking to the Raw files.
