Ahhh.. OK, this works for me... On a Mac keyboard I'm not sure if there's a separate ENTER button except for on the numeric keypad, which is fine for me... I agree with you that the behavior should be consistent... I'm cool with that... All I'm asking for is that there are KEYSTROKES to get through this, without having to resort to mouse clicks.
