This IS the Avid L2: [Avid-L2] Extend sync clips

Is there a way to extend sync clips beyond the limits?
Got a client who has long sound files, and short video files.
Sync clips get as short as the video is, but since this is documentary,
sound will be needed beyond the video boundaries.
Extend / trim on sound only in the timeline does not work. Making a group
clip results in unsearchable long clips.

Match frame can match back to the video master clip, but i have not found a
way to match back to the sound (imported BWF's).

Is there a SOP for this kind of work?
