I have had a MP trash can for almost 2 years and it has been the best workstation experience I have had (including HP/Windows, Mac Pro towers, etc).

Based on my research at the time, I went for 8 cores, AMD700 GPUs and 32 GB of RAM.  This seems to be the price/performance sweet spot for long form editorial and finishing.  Encoding MP4s and whatnot is extremely fast.

They are also dead quiet.  The only time I hear it is if I am transcoding say Red footage in a big batch - the fan becomes (mildly) audible.

In my experience, Adobe Premiere Pro is better optimized than Avid for playback or scrubbing of Red Raw or other such files.

Only con I can think of is the expense - they ain't cheap.  But I don't mind buying professional tools if they can be made to pay for themselves.
