[Avid-L2] Re: News: Avid Offers Unprecedented Limited-Time Symphony 6 Crossgrade Promotion

Yeah, so much for Avid listening to the pleas of *some* of its customers to merge the two products.

Oh well ... not a surprise.

However, it would sure be embarrassing if Avid didn't further differentiate MC and Symphony at NAB -- or at least announce a really significant and meaningful reboot of the CC Module (with Symphony possibly gaining an even larger share of CC features over MC).

For many owners, the upgrade cost of $999 is largely insignificant. However, with Source Side Correction aside, the options for truly professional 3rd party CC solutions are increasing in numbers -- while they are simultaneously decreasing in price.

And those solutions are being offered by companies with dedicated CC engineering teams, drawing against years and decades of CC experience -- and they don't wait 11 years to upgrade their software.

And, while Universal Mastering is very nice -- it is not required by all customers -- and it can only be used by a subset who have Nitris DX.

So, for those of use who might not be using a Nitris DX -- is Source Side Correction with an hamstrung CC Tool really worth the money? Especially when you have a group of frustrated clients sitting behind you -- mystified as to why you can't simply match capabilities of all other rooms they correct in.
